RK Tandon was a senior journalist who had worked in All India Radio, Lucknow for over 35 years as a correspondent and News Editor. Subsequently for about 11 years he was accredited to UP Government as ‘Swatantra Patrakar’. He was also in the panel of casual News Editors for Rainbow FM Channel of All India Radio, Lucknow.
For more than twenty five years, RK regularly covered the proceedings of UP Legislative Council. His daily focused contribution was for the evening Regional News ‘Pradeshik Samachar’ for U.P., which was broadcast from All India Radio, Lucknow. For almost three decades, he also presented the monthly news diary of Lucknow – named ‘Zile Ki Chitthi’, from A.I.R. Lucknow. He also did short casual stints at the News Section of Lucknow Doordrshan.
Born in Shahjahanpur, RK did his Intermediate from Ewing Christian College, Allahabad and later graduation and post-graduation in political science from Allahabad University.
His book ‘Azaadi ke Diwane’ deals with the life sketches of some martyrs, who had laid down their lives for the country. This book was awarded by the UP Hindi Sansthan. His book in English, ‘Hanged for their Patriotism’ was published by National Book Trust, New Delhi and has been translated into Hindi, Oriya, Punjabi, Malayalam and Telugu editions. The Hindi edition, ‘Desh Ke Liye Qurbaan’ has been identified for ‘Samagra Shiksha Abhiyaan’ of state governments of Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh and Haryana.
After the demise of his father, Shri PD Tandon, he completed and edited his unfinished manuscripts, and brought out two books, ‘The Women Who Inspired Me’ and ‘Acharya Kripalani-Memoirs of PD Tandon’ which have been published by National Book Trust.
Along with his sister Chitra, RK started PD Tandon Foundation in 2021, in the memory of his father. Its basic purpose is helping in education of the downtrodden and underprivileged and encourage journalism amongst students.
RK Tandon left for heavenly abode on 23rd May 2023 after a brief illness.
